Sustainability as a concept is a growing trend as well as a future necessity in the future of housing development. The underlying basis of this competition resides in the notion that sustainable principles can be applied to the design/build process of the production housing market, enabling future growth to be within our means and with occupant health and the health of the planet the main priority.
Nature and Technology are underlying themes in the concept of sustainability, especially their interconnectedness as it relates to ecological balance and harmony. There have been many examples in the past that demonstrate how nature’s balance can be improved or impaired due to human intervention and technology. It is this concept that we use as a springboard for the development of our proposal for the archetype sustainable home. The concept that the ‘forces of nature’ and ‘the forces of technology’ are inevitable forces to be reckoned with in the built environment.
However, if a balance of the two elements can be achieved, the resulting value to all involved would be a ‘sustainable quality of life’.
